Several organisations have expressed outrage and condemnation over the alleged rape of a minor (ten years) by a non-Naga, presently a businessman in New Market, Dimapur.
Councillor: Dimapur Municipal Council (DMC) Ward-19 councillor Kili N. Sumi condemned the alleged sexual assault on a minor Naga girl by a non-Naga shopkeeper at New Market area in Dimapur. Kili said the accused, reportedly “a habitual offender”, had committed a serious crime against a minor girl and created a fear psychosis in the mind of the victim. She said “such reprehensible act” was a direct violation of human dignity, that posed a severe threat not only to the victim but the safety and well-being of other minor children.
Kili appealed to the law enforcing authorities to deliver justice by booking the accused under relevant sections of sexual offences act and prosecuted as per the law.
Condemning the “heinous and a barbaric act”, she affirmed solidarity with the victim and the family members. She said that any individual with such evil intentions has no place in the society and must be condemned by all the sections of the society.
DAYO: Expressing shock and outrage over the alleged sexual assault on a minor Naga girl, the Dimapur Ao Youth Organisation (DAYO) asserted that “such beastly acts are utterly despicable” and should be dealt with utmost seriousness.
DAYO media cell identified the accused as one Ali Mortuja of Badarpur, Karimganj, presently a businessman in New Market, Dimapur. DAYO said the “audacity and brazenness” to commit crimes against Naga people was unheard of in earlier times but has now become “disturbingly” frequent.
Further, DAYO said that such incidents clearly indicated a deteriorating respect for the laws and ethos of the land by certain non-local elements who were to fall under the purview of the provisions of the Inner Line Permit (ILP) regulations.
DAYO therefore, called upon the civil society organisations and district administration to come together and find concrete ways and means to tackle such crimes directed against the dignity of vulnerable children of Naga society. It also demanded that the administration address the issues with an iron hand.
Meanwhile, DAYO has strongly urged the responsible authorities to implement and monitor the ILP system more stringently and efficiently without further delay.
The youth body express sympathy, concern and solidarity with the victim and her family.
DNSU: Dimapur Naga Students’ Union (DNSU) expressed outrage and condemned the alleged sexual assault, which it described as “a grave violation of human dignity and a direct assault on the safety and security of our children and our community.”
DNSU through its media cell affirmed solidarity with the victim and her family and pledged its full support in seeking justice.
The union also appealed to the Dimapur police, particularly the women police station, and all other responsible law enforcement agencies to conduct a swift, thorough, and impartial investigation into the incident. DNSU also urged the authorities to ensure that the accused was brought to justice through stringent legal action.
Further, DNSU appealed to the judiciary to ensure a fast-track trial and deliver exemplary punishment to the perpetrator.
DNSU said the incident has once again underscored the urgent and undeniable need for the stringent and comprehensive implementation of the Inner Line Permit (ILP) system in Dimapur.
It said that unchecked influx and unregulated presence of non-locals posed a direct threat to the safety, cultural integrity, and land rights of the indigenous Naga people.
Reiterating its demand for “a definitive cut-off year” for ILP enforcement, DNSU urged the state government to address all loopholes that allowed illegal activities and exploitation by unscrupulous elements.
NIPF: Nagaland Indigenous Peoples Forum (NIPF) through its president Dr. T Lima Jamir and general secretary Kikheto Sumi strongly condemned the alleged molestation of a minor Naga girl and described the act as ‘heinous and unpardonable’.
The forum stated that such kind of unacceptable incidents upon the indigenous peoples were occurring one after another, which it said was “an insult and disrespect to our people in our own land.”
NIPF has appealed to the law enforcing agencies to sternly deal with the accused under the relevant sections of law.
The forum maintained that non locals should try to live and do business in peace living along with the indigenous people in harmony.
It stated that assault incident at Murgipatti and now molestation of young innocent girl was a wakeup call to all Naga indigenous brothers to ponder very seriously that “this kind of heinous incidents does not occur in future.”
The forum warned the non-indigenous people to know their limitations least they faced the local wrath.
