Monsoon mayhem: KMC councillorsinspect affected areas around Kohima

To assess the damage caused by recent rainfall, the Kohima Municipal Council (KMC) councillors led by chairperson Neikhozo Soukhrie and deputy chairperson Khrielevi Chusi inspected several affected areas around Kohima town on Wednesday.
KMC team carried out on-site inspections at four key locations, starting from PHQ Junction up to the High School Area. During the inspection, they assessed the extent of damage, interacted with residents. KMC members urged shopkeepers and the public to maintain cleaner surroundings to help reduce future risks.
Later addressing media persons, KMC chairperson Neikhozo Soukhrie, informed that the purpose of the inspection was to identify affected areas and submit a written appeal to the government.
Due to incessant rains, a portion of the retaining wall at PHQ, DIG quarters in Upper P.R. Hill collapsed on July 5, damaging three cars.
KMC councillor of Ward 19 Medoviu Martin Suohu informed that paperwork for three vehicles damaged on July 5 landslide at PHQ, DIG quarters in Upper P.R.Hill have begun for compensation. He also informed that reconstruction work on the collapsed wall had already begun.
The team also visited the Box Cutting area above Mezhür School, Phool Bari (Main Town), Razhü Point (foot overbridge), Bayavü, and Highschool areas.
KMC deputy chairperson Khrielevi Chusi, discouraged use of the footbridge at Razhü Point, as it was being misused by some persons.
On the ongoing construction of Nagaland Cooperative Society (NCS) building adjacent to the bridge, he said the steps have been temporarily cut off. However, he assured that once the NCS construction was completed, the responsible party would reconstruct the stairs.
During the inspection, the team identified drainage issues contributing to landslides at multiple locations. Officials assured the public that remedial measures would be taken promptly.
