Kohima DPDB reviews road damage

DIMAPUR

Kohima District Planning & Development Board (DPDB) held its monthly meeting on Wednesday at DPDB Hall, Kohima, focusing on road conditions following recent natural calamities and landslides.
Executive Engineer, NPWD (NH), Er. P. Mendang Lepden highlighted serious issues along valley-side roads due to debris dumping, loose soil, and heavy trucks. He shared updates on joint visits with village councils and efforts to divert water and dig catch drains near New KMC Welcome Gate and Mohonkola Junction.
NPWD (R&B) South Division EE, Er. Wapang presented road status and alternative routes for 2025–26. He announced Monsoon Surveillance Squads led by Sub-Divisional Officers to handle emergencies caused by landslides.
North Division EE, Er. Semasie Katiry reported on pre-monsoon maintenance like drain clearance and laying of road base. He warned that unregulated quarrying, logging, and roadside pipeline work were damaging roads. Random construction and poor drainage planning were also causing blockages.
Urban Development EE, Er. Keneizezo said repair works are ongoing from AZ Phizo Park to BSF Camp and NBCC Junction to High Court Junction. Work includes drain cleaning, pothole filling, and cattle trap repair across town.
KSCDL EE, Er. Imsunaro updated on the NH-29 to I.G. Stadium stretch.
She said a retaining wall has been built and light repairs are underway, while a JCB is stationed for emergency use. The meeting was chaired by DC Kohima, B. Henok Buchem and attended by DPDB chairman and MLAs- Kevipodi Sophie and Dr. Tseilhoutuo Rhütso.
Agriculture department’s SDA, Viketuno Chüsi, presented department updates on RKVY, NFSM, PM-KISAN, and other schemes. The district has 6,460 PM-KISAN beneficiaries and ongoing interventions in villages like Mima, Kezoma, Chedema, and Sakhabama.
The Board also discussed preparations for the Dr. T. Ao Football Tournament and road resurfacing. It was decided that the Excise Department will present the department activities in the next meeting.
