In a major recognition of her decades-long advocacy for human rights and peace, veteran social activist Sano Vamuzo has been conferred the Baptist World Congress Quinquennial Human Rights Award for lifetime achievement.
The award, presented by the Baptist World Alliance (BWA), honours individuals who have made outstanding global contributions in advancing human rights, social justice, and peace. The selection of Vamuzo, who is also a Padma Shri awardee, was unanimously affirmed by the BWA Executive Committee.
Vamuzo, a founding member of the Naga Mothers’ Association (NMA) and the first chairperson of the Nagaland State Commission for Women, has been a pioneering advocate for women’s representation and conflict resolution both in Nagaland and beyond.
The award was presented during the 23rd Baptist World Congress in Brisbane, Australia, (July 9 to 12).
It may be mentioned that Sano Vamuzo was conferred the Padma Shri 2024 in the field of Social Service .
