NU launches PG course on Rural Development

Nagaland University has introduced a new postgraduate (M.A.) programme in Rural Development and Management under the Department of Rural Development and Planning (RDP), approved during its 40th Academic Council meeting.
The course is aimed at building professionals to address development needs in rural and tribal areas of Nagaland and the Northeast. Vice Chancellor Prof. J.K. Patnaik congratulated the department and said the programme reflects the university’s commitment to academic excellence and community service.
Prof. Dipak Sinha, Pro-Vice Chancellor, Medziphema Campus, assured full support for the programme’s success. Dean, School of Social Sciences, Prof. B. Kilangla Jamir, also congratulated the department.
Head of Department, Prof. Jayanta Choudhury, said the programme will create skilled local leaders and professionals in rural planning and governance. He thanked the efforts of faculty members Dr. Deepa Thangjam, Dr. Merensangla Longkumer and Dr. Guneshori Maisnam.
The programme will offer interdisciplinary learning focused on rural economy, governance, natural resource management, and planning of development schemes.
It includes practical field-based learning and prepares students for careers in government, NGOs, academics and entrepreneurship.
Graduates with at least 50% marks in B.A., B.Sc., B.Com., or BBA (excluding language subjects) are eligible to apply. SC/ST/OBC/PWD candidates are given relaxation. Students from Nagaland University-affiliated colleges receive a 10% bonus weightage. Total intake capacity is 20.
Application window is from July 1 to July 20, 2025. Entrance test for non-CUET candidates will be held on July 28, 2025. Interested candidates can visit www.nagalanduniversity.ac.in for more details.
