Rajya Sabha MP and chairperson of State Level Consultative Committee (SLCC) of Food Corporation of India (FCI), S. Phangnon Konyak, chaired a meeting of the SLCC at Hotel Acacia, Dimapur, on Friday.
According to DIPR report, the meeting was attended by SLCC members, officials from Food & Civil Supplies Department and FCI Regional Office, Nagaland.
Phangnon appreciated FCI’s adoption of digital platforms like the FCI app and online portal, which she said have improved transparency in food distribution.
She highlighted the consistent supply of foodgrains in Nagaland, with the Centre meeting the state’s rice requirements. While rice is managed by FCI, wheat allocations come under the Social Welfare Department, she clarified.
She also commended the 100% lifting of allocated foodgrains over the years, noting effective coordination between FCI and the state government. She stressed the importance of transparency and efficiency in the food supply chain.
Meanwhile, Food & Civil Supplies Department has been urged to raise more awareness about its roles in ensuring food security, transport, and equitable distribution of essential commodities. A PowerPoint presentation outlined FCI’s objectives, food security schemes, procurement and distribution mechanisms, IT initiatives and preventive checks, with details specific to Nagaland’s operations.
The committee also reviewed key issues such as foodgrain quality, storage, transit losses, implementation of TPDS for Antyodaya, BPL and APL families, sale and disposal of stocks and coordination with state authorities.
Queries from participants were addressed by officials from the state government and FCI.
