Union Minister for Parliamentary Affairs and Minority Affairs, Kiren Rijiju, on Saturday asserted that the people of North Eastern Region (NER) must be grateful to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for the unprecedented attention and support given to the region over the past decade.
Speaking at the Rozgar Mela held at Town Hall here, Rijiju maintained that the region, which was long neglected, was now witnessing remarkable transformation under PM Modi’s leadership. “Never before has the Northeast received such consistent support and recognition from the central government,” he said.
The 16th Rozgar Mela, held simultaneously at 47 locations across the country, saw virtual distribution of around 51,000 appointment letters by Prime Minister Modi, while Rijiju personally handed over appointment letters to new recruits at the Dimapur event.
Rijiju also highlighted developmental strides made in the Northeast. He claimed that currently, every corner of Nagaland, including remotest villages, has access to quality roads, electricity, internet connectivity, potable drinking water, and other basic amenities. Union minister added that farmers were benefitting from government schemes while women were being “supported like never before.”
He attributed the transformation to PM Modi’s personal concern for the region. Rijiju also recalled how during his time in the opposition, he tried his best to draw attention of senior leaders to the Northeast, but was however in vain. “Now, Prime Minister Modiji, he deeply understands and responds to the aspirations of the people here,” Rijiju said.
Asserting peace was prerequisite for development, the union minister said “The more peaceful the Northeast becomes, the more prosperous it will be.” Rijiju added PM Modi envisions North East region as one of the most economically vibrant regions in India.
Meanwhile, dwelling on the significance of Rozgar Mela, Rijiju said that it was a matter of pride to receive an appointment letter directly from the Prime Minister. “This practice, initiated by the PM himself, reflects his vision to spread positivity and hope among the youth,” he stated.
Rijiju said earlier there were many challenges in government recruitment processes, but the Modi government has streamlined the system to ensure faster appointments. Encouraging the newly appointed employees, he reminded that there was no job that was small or big as every government employee, regardless of department, was serving the nation. “It is not only those in uniform who serve the country,” Rijiju stated.
On the occasion, the minister also reminded that every citizen of the country had a vital role to play in India’s journey to becoming a developed nation by 2047. “India’s development depends on each and every citizen. We cannot wait for change, we have to work for it,” Rijiju said.
The Rozgar Mela in Dimapur was also attended by deputy chief minister Y Patton, Rajya Sabha MP S Phangnon Konyak, advisor minority affairs & sericulture, Imkongmar; advisor animal husbandry & veterinary services, Kazheto Kinimi; deputy commissioner Dimapur, Dr. Tinojongshi Chang, commissioner of police, K. Sophie, and other dignitaries.
