TMC leader Piyush Ghosh shot dead

KOLKATA, JUL 13 (AGENCIES)

A Trinamool Congress (TMC) leader, Piyush Ghosh, is shot dead in West Bengal’s Birbhum. The incident took place around 2 am when Ghosh, the agricultural officer of the party’s Sainthia Panchayat Samiti and president of the Srinidhipur area, was called out of his house and subsequently murdered, reports India Today.
The killing of Ghosh comes just days after another TMC leader was murdered in Bhangar, marking this as the second such political killing in three days, further escalating tensions in the region.
According to initial reports, Ghosh received a phone call around midnight.
As he approached the Komarpur intersection, assailants shot him in the head.
Police immediately reached the spot, recovered the body, and sent it to Bolpur Subdistrict Hospital for post-mortem examination.
Abhijit Singh, Lavpur MLA, visited the hospital and met with Ghosh’s grieving family. Condemning the killing, Singh said, “It’s a very sad incident. Our party leader was called from his house and shot dead.
We demand the immediate arrest of the miscreants,” expressing faith in the ongoing investigation.
Amandeep Singh, Birbhum District Superintendent of Police, said that the police had acted swiftly, arresting three individuals, including two women.
“The investigation is underway, and we cannot reveal more details at this moment,” he added.
Reacting to the incident, Dubrajpur BJP MLA, Anup Saha, held the state government responsible.
“There have been several murders that have happened in West Bengal in the last few years. Be it the common men or TMC leaders. Mamata Banerjee is solely responsible for this.
This government is not able to handle law and order,” Saha said.
