A one-day sensitization program under the theme “Welcome Dear Daughter – Celebrate Her Birth, Nurture Her Growth” was held at the Sub-Divisional Office, Jakhama, Kohima on July 12.
According to DIPR report, the event was organized by the Kohima District Administration in collaboration with SANKALP – District Hub for Empowerment of Women (DHEW) Kohima, Naga Hospital Authority Kohima (NHAK), and the Department of Post.
The program aimed to raise awareness on the importance of valuing and nurturing the girl child. A host of services and awareness activities were provided during the program, including: free health check-up by Dr. Neiphrenuo Sekhose, paediatrician and SNCU Medical Officer, NHAK.
On-the-spot Aadhaar enrollment for girls aged 0–5 years was carried out, facilitated by the district administration in coordination with the Department of Social Welfare.
Financial literacy sessions on schemes for girls and women such as Sukanya Samriddhi Yojana and Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana (PMMVY) were also held during the program. Vidilhounuo Solo, Financial Literacy specialist from DHEW Kohima, elaborated on the benefits of the PMMVY, while Sharon Losu from the Department of Post highlighted various postal schemes aimed at empowering women and the girl child. To commemorate the occasion, EAC, Ane Khieya, along with other officials, planted trees named after girl children, symbolizing their growth and importance in society. The program was chaired by Gender Specialist, Vikeduozo Sorhie, DHEW Kohima, while a welcome address was delivered by Ane Khieya, EAC Kohima.
