DIMAPUR

A training session for Booth Level Officers (BLOs) under 4 Ghaspani-I and 5 Ghaspani-II constituencies was conducted on July 15 at the Conference Hall, office of the Deputy Commissioner, Chumoukedima. The programme was organized under the directive of the office of the Chief Electoral Officer, Nagaland, as part of its ongoing capacity-building initiative.
According to a DIPR report, addressing the participants, Deputy Commissioner Polan John, emphasized the importance of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) in ensuring transparency and accuracy in the electoral roll.
He urged BLOs, Electoral Registration Officers (EROs), Assistant Electoral Registration Officers (AEROs), and Supervisors to treat their assignments with utmost sincerity, noting that their deputation to the Election Commission of India comes with a responsibility to uphold clean electoral practices.
John also noted that the ECI has introduced new features for BLOs, with two officers from Ghaspani-I and II recently trained in Delhi.
He called for sincere implementation of voter verification through house-to-house visits and stressed the need for complete and correct voter enrollment.
Additional Deputy Commissioner and ERO, Chumoukedima, Kuzonyi Wideo, welcomed attendees and briefed them on recent changes in ECI forms and applications.
He addressed concerns raised regarding polling station bifurcation, explaining that the ECI mandates a minimum of 1,200 voters to consider such changes.
Requests concerning polling stations for residents beyond a 2-kilometre radius are pending further directives.
Post-training, BLOs will carry out house-to-house verification and pre-revision activities. BLOs from Medziphema, Niuland, and Chümoukedima also attended.
Training topics included constitutional and statutory provisions related to BLO appointment, SIR responsibilities, Booth Awareness Group (BAG) formation, Nazari mapping, group activities, role plays, and enumeration processes. Resource persons Ketoulhounuo Thakro and Nikavi Chishi led the sessions.
