KVK Dimapur trains farmerson natural farming

DIMAPUR

Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) Dimapur under ICAR Research Complex for NEH Region, Nagaland Centre, conducted a hands-on training on vermicomposting and natural farming for selected farmers of Dimapur district on July 22.
According to KVK, the programme was attended by 10 farmers and aimed at promoting sustainable agriculture. Senior Scientist & Head, KVK Dimapur, Dr. Phool Kumari welcomed the trainees and highlighted the importance of skill-based learning to bridge the gap between theory and field-level practice.
Animal husbandry practices such as poultry, rabbitry, piggery and dairy were shared by Dr. Ebibeni Ngullie, who stressed the value of integrated farming systems.
Dr. Akshay Ujjwal led the technical session on vermicomposting and natural farming, explaining how these practices reduce dependence on chemical inputs. He guided the farmers in using local bio-resources and demonstrated composting methods, including worm selection and unit management.
The trainees also visited the KVK demonstration farm to observe organic farming methods. As part of field support, KVK handed over two vermi pits to the farmers to encourage implementation in their own farms.
Staff members including Dr. Chingakum Sima Chanu and Dr. Moanaro contributed to the programme, which aimed to build capacity and motivate farmers to adopt eco-friendly practices.
Officials said the training successfully equipped farmers with knowledge and tools for sustainable agriculture and would serve as a model for similar initiatives in Nagaland.
