
World Malaria Day (WMD) was observed across the state on Monday on the theme, “End malaria for good” where medial departments of the respective districts organized sanitation drives.
In Kohima, the sanitation drive was organized by Directorate of Health and Family Welfare at different colonies.
Volunteers of various localities and wards initiated the cleanliness, as assigned by the department on the theme “Think, Plan, Create a Malaria Free Environment”.
Officials from Health and State Malaria Department and also district municipal members monitored the cleanliness drive.
According to District Vector Borne Officer, CMO Kohima, Dr. Benny, the department undertook the drive to motivate the community to think and plan for a cleaner environment, which would ultimately resulted in a malaria free environment. The officer also informed that best sanitation drive would be awarded a cash price of Rs. 30,000 and Rs. 10,000 and 5,000 for second and the third best performing colonies.
Dr. Benny also informed that winning prize on sanitation drive would be awarded on April 30 by their respective Deputy Commissioners in all the districts.
MOKOKCHUNG : Prize distribution ceremony of the inter-ward cleanliness drive competition organized by the National Vector Borne Disease Control Programme (NVBDCP) Mokokchung in collaboration with Mokokchung district Swachh Bharat Mission on account of World Malaria Day was held on Monday at IDSP Hall, IMDH Mokokchung. Deputy commissioner of Mokokchung, Sushil Kumar Patel IAS graced the event as chief guest.
DC while addressing the gathering appreciated the 18 wards under Mokokchung town for their active participation in the competition .
He said “everybody deserves prizes” but participation was more important than winning.
Chief medical officer of Mokokchung, Dr.S.S.Akaba Longchar while delivering the keynote address highlighted the significance of observing WMD and the measures adopted to control and eradicate malaria and other vector borne diseases. He also informed that the month of June would be observed further as Malaria month and sought the cooperation and support of all stakeholders.
Chairman of All Wards Union Mokokchung, who also spoke on the occasion appreciated the district SBM and the DVBO (NVBDCP) Mokokchung, Dr.S.Marina Yaden for organizing the cleanliness drive competition.
SDO(C), Sachin Jaiswal was the chief judge of the competition.
In the competition, Sungkomen Ward was adjudged the winner followed by Yimyu and Marepkong wards in the second and third places respectively.
NVBDCP adds: Meanwhile, National Vector Borne Disease Control Programme (NVBDCP) which organized the inter-ward cleanliness drive competition has informed that in Mokokchung district, majority of malaria cases were reported from Assam bordered line such as Mangkolemba and Tuli areas through cross transmission from non-local tea workers and coal mine workers to local people.
In a press note, DVBO (NVBDCP), Mokokchung, Dr.S.Marina Yaden stated that Malaria patients were also reported from neighboring districts such as Longleng, Tuensang and Zunheboto.
LONGLENG: On the occasion, District Hospital Longleng in collaboration with Swacch Bharat Mission, Longleng organized competition on sanitation drive for all the wards of Longleng town.
The day was observed at IDSP hall district hospital Longleng.
In the competition, Bahok and Nyengching ward won the first position while second and third prizes went to Leinak and Agri ward respectively.
During the programme, Dr. Imnameren Phom spoke on the menace and its consequences of malaria and methods on preventing the dreaded disease. He also encouraged the gatherings to keep their surrounding clean in order to keep themselves safe from the disease.
Short speeches were also delivered by, DVBO (NVBDCP) Dr. Thungbemo Patton, DVBO (NVBDCP) and EAC Sakshi Er. Kevingoto Kulnu.The programme was chaired by DPM, NRHM District Hospital Longleng, Viroli.
Zunheboto: Zunheboto district observed World Malaria Day on April 25, on the theme “Think, plan, create: A malaria free environment”.
Commemorating the day a sanitation drive was carried out in all the colonies. During the sanitation drive the colonies cleaned the drainages, clogged culvert and filled the potholes.
The drive was spearheaded by GB’s and youth body.
Meanwhile, NVBDCP organized a programme in CMO Office compound in observance of World Malaria Day, where SDO (c), Zunheboto, Shanavas, (IAS) graced the occasion as chief guest.
SDO (C) also handed the prizes to the winning wards.
Old Town, Amiphoto and Laghilato bagged the first, second and third prize respectively. Khuwoboto colony was bagged the best awareness colony. Alahuto, Project colony, New Colony and North Point bagged the consolation prizes respectively.
IEC materials were distributed; poster, banners were put up in town.
Earlier, in his keynote address, SMO (DH) Dr. Akaho highlighted how malaria was spread and encouraged community participation for creating awareness. During the function awards were also handed to the cleanest performing colonies.
DIMAPUR: Along with the rest of the world, Dimapur district under Urban Malaria Scheme observed World Malaria Day by organizing sanitation drive in all the wards under Dimapur on April 25.
To mark the day, the cleanest wards were awarded prizes where Ward No.9 bagged the first place and received Rs. 20,000 while Ward No. 10 and Ward No. 4 were declared second and third. They received Rs. 15,000 and Rs. 10,000 respectively.
SDO (C), Longsen Lotha, DPO, NVBDCP, Dr. Moa Jamir and assistant director, UVBDCS, Kikolul Khrieya judged the sanitation drive.
TUENSANG: In Tuensang, the programme was organized by district health society at CMO conference hall.
In a press statement, chief medical officer, Dr. T. Pangjung Sangtam and district media officer, Kupje Buchem stated that competition of sanitation drive among the wards was organized.
First prize went to High School ‘B’, second- Bazaar ‘B’ and third Officers Ward. They received cash Rs.30,000, Rs.10,000 and Rs.5000 respectively along with certificates.
The programme was chaired by inspector NVBDCP, C.Nokching Somba, key note address was given by consultant, PHED Tuensang, Ashale Seb.
PHEK: District health society Phek observed world malaria day at CMO conference hall.
Chief medical officer, Phek, Dr. L. Tokuho Chishi in his keynote address highlighted the participants on the magnitude of the malaria scourge.
He said that the theme “end malaria for good” appeared as a distant dream but with collaboration from all stakeholders the goal could be achieved.
PTYS, president Neihite Akami, while delivering short speech appreciated the medical department for distributing mosquito nets to all households. He also informed the participants on the “Operation Clean Green Town” which was launched recently and called upon the participants to take active part.
Meanwhile, the department has awarded prize money to the three cleanest colonies. The first prize was bagged by Jericho – 1 colony, 2nd prize by Bethel colony and 3rd prize by Bethany -1 colony. Consolation prizes were also given to all the other colonies.
The panel of judges were EAC Phek, Tiayanger; PTC member, Seyiengoyi and Dr. Kolhitso Khalo.
173 BN CRPF: 173 BN CRPF also conducted World Malaria day / Clean India campaign on April 25, at Super Market area, Dimapur, as part of the Sanitation drive / Clean India Campaign in collaboration with the District Vector Borne Office (NVBDCP) department, Dimapur.
On the occasion, 173 Bn CRPF, commandant Joseph Keishing, 2nd-in-command Love Kumar, CMO-173 Bn Dr. Api Bagra, unit officers/Jawans and families of 173 Bn CRPF along with Dr. Moa Jamir, District Vector Borne Officer (NVBDCP), Dimapur participated in the programme by cleaning the area and spread awareness regarding prevention of
malaria.
