Phek Police launch ‘Project Ummeed’ for mental health support

DIMAPUR

A lifesaving Mental Health initiative of Phek Police- “Project UMMEED: THE HOPE” was officially launched by Dr. Pritpal Kaur, Superintendent of Police, Phek, at Christian Mission Higher Secondary School, Phek, on July 26.
Under the motto “Say No to suicide, Yes to Life,” the project aims to provide round-the-clock counselling and emergency response to distressed individuals.
According to DIPR report, speaking at the event, Dr. Pritpal Kaur, emphasised the urgency of addressing mental health concerns.
Dr. Kaur informed the gathering that a District Distress Response Team (DRT) has been formed to respond to any emergency or distress calls around the clock.
Dr. Kaur informed that the helpline will operate 24×7 and callers’ identities will be kept confidential, and will provide counselling and support to those in need. Emergency and Distress Helpline Numbers (DRT) were also shared: 6009308170, 8729923553, 9862200699 and 7005532585.
Delivering short speeches, Jitsisiasa of Sakhi One Stop Centre and Neichulou, a psychiatrist from District Hospital Phek, shared and highlighted the significance of mental health and the importance of support towards needy persons.
