‘Red Run Marathon’ held in Wokha to promote HIV awareness among youth

In a spirited display of youth engagement and health advocacy, the Nagaland State AIDS Control Society (NSACS) organized the District Level Red Run Marathon as part of the annual Youth Fest campaign under the National AIDS Control Organization (NACO) on Tuesday in Wokha. The event aimed to raise awareness about HIV and sexually transmitted infections (STIs) among young people.
The marathon began at 6 AM from Zero Point and concluded at Niropen Petrol Pump, drawing a crowd of 84 participants between the ages of 17 and 25. Competitors raced under both male and female categories, showing enthusiasm and commitment to the cause.
District Welfare Officer James Ezung, who flagged off the run, emphasized the importance of a healthy lifestyle. He called on youth to avoid substance abuse and remain informed about HIV and STI prevention, highlighting the critical role of awareness in protecting public health.

Male Category: 1st – Renthungo Tsanglao, 2nd – Phyobentung Humtsoe, 3rd – Abemo Kithan.
Female Category: 1st – Chumbeno R. Kikon, 2nd – Soreni R. Ezung, 3rd – Nsungbeni L. Tungoe.
The Red Run forms part of a broader movement to educate youth on health issues, reduce stigma surrounding HIV, and promote responsible lifestyle choices. Through events like this, NSACS continues to build platforms that combine sport, outreach, and empowerment.
