RPP questions PAC, seeks clarity on Naga talks

DIMAPUR, JUL 30 (NPN)

Rising People’s Party (RPP) has questioned the relevance of the Political Affairs Committee (PAC) constituted by the ruling coalition, alleging that it served little purpose beyond projecting that the NDPP-BJP government was taking steps on the Naga political issue.
In a press release, RPP stated that the PAC should be disbanded, stating that it only promoted government propaganda without contributing meaningfully to the peace process.
It also alleged that self-serving leaders obsessed with their own individual legacy and fiefdom had failed to understand the pulse of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s government. RPP, however, cautioned that the same Prime Minister who respected strength could also show “the same disdain”, and stakeholders needed to understand this reality.
RPP further cautioned that entities chasing self-serving goals at the cost of unity should be careful, lest “history denounce them as puppets and traitors.”
Meanwhile, the party once again raised concerns over the role of A.K. Mishra, Government of India’s representative for Naga talks. RPP said Mishra should clarify the current status of the “Framework Agreement” and the “Agreed Position”, and whether these agreements were still relevant. It further asked whether Mishra had succeeded in bringing all factions on board for a final settlement and, if so, what the timeframe for such a settlement might be.
Stating that the goalpost kept shifting, RPP said it sincerely requested Mishra to take a break. According to RPP, the ongoing Naga-led effort at unity should take precedence, and until such elusive factional unity was realised, Mishra should avoid fishing in troubled waters.
RPP concluded by underlining the need for stakeholders to prioritise unity and remain focused on the larger interest of the Naga people.
