Nehru Yuva Kendra Sangathan (NYKS)/ My Bharat under the Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports, Government of India, in collaboration with Nagaland State Disaster Management Authority (NSDMA), organised the inaugural programme for the Yuva Aapda Mitra Scheme (YAMS) training at Central Training Institute (CTI), SDRF, Toluvi, Dimapur on Wednesday.
Commandant General of Home Guards, Civil Defence & SDRF Nagaland, Aotemsu, urged participants to commit wholeheartedly to the seven-day training, stressing the importance of equipping themselves with disaster response skills. He highlighted the role of the youth as medical first responders and called upon them to uphold dedication and sincerity throughout the programme. Further, Aotemsu encouraged volunteers to extend their focus beyond immediate disaster response and explore ways to contribute to environmental protection and national safety. He emphasised that YAMS aims to nurture a generation of responsible and skilled citizens committed to volunteerism.
The training, scheduled from July 30 to August 5, has drawn youth from Peren, Phek, Wokha, Longleng and Tseminyu districts.
District Coordinator Wokha, Wopenthung Kikon chaired the inauguration programme, which also included briefings by resource persons, trainers and trainees.
