DIMAPUR

Nagaland State Legal Services Authority (NSLSA) organized a culmination programme for its Summer Internship Programme 2025 at the DC’s Conference Hall, Kohima on July 31.
According to a DIPR report, NSLSA member secretary, Neiko Akami, delivered the keynote address and outlined the roles and responsibilities of the Legal Services Authority, constituted under the Legal Services Authorities Act, 1987. He provided insights into the functioning of the Nagaland SLSA and the District Legal Services Authorities (DLSA), highlighting the roles of the Executive Chairman, Member Secretary, panel lawyers, para legal volunteers, and various outreach activities.
Akami also briefed the interns on filing FIRs, police procedures, and the process of court trials and examinations. He urged the students to strive for academic excellence and prepare diligently for judicial service examinations.

She highlighted key features including modernization, major and minor legal reforms, and systemic reorganization under the new framework.
Deputy Legal Aid Defense Counsel, Kohima, Kezhosano Kikhi, shared her personal journey and emphasized the importance of resilience and patience in pursuing a career in law. Interns also reflected on their experiences during the training.
Over 30 law students participated in the internship throughout July. The programme was chaired by State Panel Lawyer, Cherry Ovung. As part of the internship, students visited several institutions including Gauhati High Court Kohima Bench, district court, police station, State Mental Health Institute, orphanage, district jail, Kripa Foundation, and Sakhi One Stop Centre. In a notable outreach effort, the interns organized awareness programmes for street vendors, benefiting 78 individuals, and distributed legal aid pamphlets to the public.
