CorrespondentIMPHAL, AUG 1

In an intense Group F match of the 134th Indian Oil Durand Cup held on Friday at Imphal’s Khuman Lampak Main Stadium, the Indian Navy Football Team (INFT) secured a hard-fought 2-1 victory against I-League side Real Kashmir FC (RKFC). The win marked INFT’s first success in the competition since 2021, placing them atop the group standings.
The Sailors began the match in a classic 4-3-3 formation under head coach Raman Rai, with Bhaskar Roy captaining from goal and an attacking frontline featuring Sreyas V G, Roshan Panna, and Vijay Marandi. Real Kashmir, led by Ishfaq Ahmed, opted for a technical 4-3-2-1 setup, featuring Russian forward Marat Tareck and midfielders Modou Mbengue and Franck William Sessegnon.
INFT got off to a fast start, scoring in the 6th minute. A pacey run and low cross from Roshan Panna was converted by Marandi with a deft knee finish, bringing early celebration from the crowd. Real Kashmir responded with several attacking movements, notably a 22nd-minute through ball from Sessegnon to Ahteeb, which was thwarted by keeper Bhaskar Roy. Despite multiple efforts, RKFC couldn’t score before the half-time whistle, with the Navy leading 1-0.
RKFC came out strong in the second half, equalizing in the 64th minute through Sessegnon. The Ivorian midfielder made a well-timed run onto a long pass from Seila Toure and beat the keeper with a composed finish. However, INFT quickly restored their lead in the 70th minute. Once again, Panna proved instrumental, threading a low diagonal pass to Sreyas V G, who delivered a precise right-footed strike. Real Kashmir introduced fresh legs through substitutions in the closing stages, but the Navy defense, anchored by Novin Gurung and Adarsh Mattummal, remained resolute. Novin was particularly effective, making crucial interceptions and aerial clearances to preserve the lead.
The match saw spirited play from both sides, but ultimately, INFT emerged victorious with full points, significantly enhancing their prospects in the group. All fixtures of the Durand Cup are broadcast live on Sony Sports Network and streamed via SonyLiv, ensuring nationwide coverage of this historic tournament.
