Two Assam residents nabbed by Manipur police here in Imphal were accused of running a cybercrime racket using mule bank accounts.
The Manipur police further accused them of being members of a criminal network who were tasked to enter data involving transactions and collect sensitive credentials such as Aadhar and bank account details.
The police arrested Bikram Basumatary (31) from Assam’s Barpeta and Sudem Basumatary (35) from Chirang of the same state on July 31 from ISBT Khuman Lampak, Imphal.
The police accused them of running a cybercrime racket using mule bank accounts to commit economic offences across different states.
“The arrested individuals were members of a criminal network who were tasked to enter data involving transactions and collect sensitive credentials such as Aadhar and bank account details,” the police said in a statement.
“Two mule bank accounts which the duo was using were linked to economic offences committed in different states as recorded in the National Cybercrime Reporting Portal” the police added.
