DMC employees strike for release of pending salary

DIMAPUR, AUG 4 (NPN)

Dimapur Municipal Council Employees’ Welfare Union (DMCEWU) has announced that its members will launch an indefinite strike from August 5, 2025, over non-payment of salaries and other pending dues.
In a formal notification, the Union said the decision to cease all work was taken based on three key resolutions submitted on July 24 namely, clearance of backlog salaries, payment of EPF, gratuity and other employee benefits, and halting the engagement of DMC staff in various duties.
The union stated that despite repeated assurances, the DMC has failed to clear the backlog of salaries for its staff and workers.
It said that no tools or machinery would be operated at any department or worksite until all pending salaries were fully cleared.
The protest will begin from 9:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. daily at the premises of the old DMC building, Kalibari Road, Dimapur. It said that the strike has been endorsed unanimously by the general body and will continue until the demands are met.
The union clarified that the demonstration would be peaceful, non-violent, and carried out in accordance with all applicable rules and regulations.
It further cautioned that strict attendance would be maintained, and any employee failing to participate would be penalised.
