Bodo delegates from BTAD attend Bathou meet at Kushiabill

DIMAPUR

Over 100 Bodo delegates from Bodoland Territorial Area Districts (BTAD), Assam, gathered at Kechakhaiti Than, Kushiabill Village, for a Bathou religious meet hosted by the local Mech (Bodo) Kachari community.
The event celebrated the spiritual and cultural heritage of Bathou, the traditional religion of the Bodo people. Delegates adorned in traditional attire and colourful aaronai scarves symbolizing their affiliations, participated in rituals, Sanjwra prayers, cultural songs, and discussions on the relevance of Bathouism in contemporary society.
The sacred Sijou plant, representing the five principles of Bathou—truth, wisdom, peace, compassion, and forgiveness—was central to the ceremonial proceedings.
Key organisers included Chilarai Mech, president, Than Committee; Manuraj Basumatari, vice-president, Than Committee; Babul Mech, vice-president, KTCN; Langkang Mech, Gaon Bura of Kushiabill Village; Biswajit Mech, secretary, Village Council; and Rameswar Mech, an elder of the community.
Speeches delivered during the programme inspired youth to uphold Bathou practices and values. The gathering also served as a cultural bridge, strengthening ties among Bodo communities across state borders.
The event concluded with communal feasting, traditional performances, and expressions of solidarity and gratitude from the host community.
