Mughavi village under Niuland district has sought the intervention of the state chief minister in Gelajan land dispute issue, where joint evection drive was carried out on August 3, 2025.
In a representation to the chief minister through deputy commissioner Niuland, the village head GB Mughavi Awomi highlighted the long-standing land dispute that has affected the community for decades. He stated that the outsiders “commonly referred to as miya or IBI settlers” had illegally occupied their ancestral land now referred to as “Gelajan”.
The village appreciated Assam and Nagaland governments for carrying out joint eviction drive in the said area on August 3. However, the village highlighted the “unresolved historical background” and sought resolution to the issue.
The village stated that eviction should not be the end of the matter but rather the beginning of a just resolution. In this regard, the Hd GB urged the chief minister to undertake certain steps including thorough investigation & verification; joint verification until final settlement; permanent resolution based on records and resolutions; and direct ONGC to fulfil its responsibility.
The head GB stated that Mughavi villages have endured decades of hardship and injustice over a matter that was already resolved multiple times in joint government meetings. The village expressed hope that the intervention of chief minister would bring closure to the longstanding issue.
