Medanta highlights advanced radiosurgery at Kohima CME

DIMAPUR

In a step toward improving cancer care in Nagaland, Gurgaon-based Medanta – The Medicity, recognised as India’s Best Private Hospital by Newsweek for six years, organised a Continuing Medical Education (CME) programme in Kohima on “CyberKnife Radiosurgery for Benign and Malignant Lesions”.
Led by Dr. Tejinder Kataria, chairperson of Radiation Oncology, Cancer Institute, Medanta, Gurugram, the session aimed to raise awareness on CyberKnife radiosurgery — a non-invasive treatment that delivers targeted radiation to cancerous and noncancerous tumours without harming surrounding tissue.
Dr. Kataria explained that CyberKnife is a painless, bloodless, anaesthesia-free procedure that offers precision treatment even for oligometastatic cancer, where metastases are limited to five areas. The therapy, delivered in 1–7 sessions over 1–2 weeks, ensures optimal outcomes with minimal side effects.
Dr. Naresh Trehan, chairman and managing director of Medanta, emphasized the need for accessible healthcare across underserved regions, including the Northeast. He stated, “Quality healthcare is a right, not a privilege,” and reaffirmed Medanta’s commitment to transforming cancer care through cutting-edge technologies. Apart from CyberKnife, Medanta deploys advanced platforms like TomoTherapy, VMAT, Image-Guided Brachytherapy, SRS, and SBRT to treat complex cancers affecting vital organs such as the lungs, brain, and liver, often avoiding surgery. The hospital also offers functional radiosurgery to manage neurological disorders and gynecological cancers.
The CME followed a three-day medical camp held in Kohima from June 25–27, organized with IDAN, Directorate of Industries and Commerce, and Nagaland Police. Over 400 participants attended. Medanta had earlier signed an MoU with the Nagaland Government under the Chief Minister’s Health Insurance Scheme (CMHIS). It now offers multi-speciality OPD services at Sunvalley Hospital, GS Road, Mathura Nagar, Guwahati.
