NSPC warns against violations under Pharmacy Act, 1948

DIMAPUR, AUG 7 (NPN)

The Nagaland State Pharmacy Council (NSPC) has issued a public notice highlighting penalties under key provisions of the Pharmacy Act, 1948, and urged all concerned to comply with the law in the interest of public health and safety.
According to registrar of NSPC, Khele Thorie, Section 26A(3) of the Act states that any person who wilfully obstructs a Pharmacy Inspector in the exercise of his powers under the Act or rules made thereunder shall be liable to a penalty which may extend to Rs.1 lakh.
Further, under Section 41, any person falsely claiming to be a registered pharmacist—without having their name entered in the State Register—shall, on first conviction, be punishable with a fine up to Rs. 1 lakh. On subsequent convictions, the punishment may extend to imprisonment up to three months, or a fine not exceeding Rs. 2 lakh, or both.
In addition, Section 42 prohibits dispensing of medicines by unregistered persons, which is punishable with imprisonment for a term up to three months, or a fine up to Rs. 2 lakh, or both.
