A closing programme for the adult literacy campaign was held at Tsungiki village on August 8, marking the culmination of a three-month initiative aimed at empowering illiterate citizens through basic education.
The campaign was spearheaded by the Wokha district administration, Department of Social Welfare, and District Hub for Empowerment of Women (DHEW) under Mission Shakti (Beti Bachao Beti Padhao), in collaboration with NSRLM and PRI–CPO Chukitong Block.
The programme was chaired by Lily Humtsoe, CCRP PRI–CPO, while the welcome address was delivered by the VDB secretary on behalf of the Tsungiki Village Council.
Delivering the keynote address, EAC Sangmou Khiamniungan, speaking on behalf of the district administration, expressed satisfaction over the progress made through the campaign. He stated that basic literacy opens many doors and emphasized the administration’s commitment to ensuring that every illiterate citizen in the district is reached through such initiatives.
Senior SDEO also addressed the gathering, congratulating the students for successfully completing the campaign and encouraging them to continue learning. He noted that many others had wished to avail the programme, making the participants fortunate.
Speaking on behalf of the Department of Social Welfare, the DPO thanked all stakeholders for their contributions and highlighted how the campaign would help beneficiaries become independent while accessing various welfare schemes. He also acknowledged the students’ dedication and sacrifice over the past three months and shared insights on DHEW and Mission Shakti.
NSRLM Block Programme Manager spoke on the genesis of the campaign and thanked the Zukhumki Federation for their tireless efforts in ensuring its success.
During the programme, students demonstrated the skills they had acquired through the campaign. Certificates and gifts were distributed to the successful participants by Chichanthung Ezung, Gender Specialist, DHEW.
