Three Konyak Union (KU) units- Tobu, Mopong and Longchang- have reaffirmed their standing demand for implementation of the original NH-702 alignment Option-1 via Longleang–Sowa–Longchang–Aboi–Mon–Tizit.
A joint statement issued by convenor of the KU units N. Chaohong and secretary E. Wangka, disclosed that the three KU units held a consultative meeting on August 8, 2025 at KU Tobu unit office, attended by MLAs- Nyamnyei Konyak and Naiba Konyak. At the meeting, the three unanimously resolved to stand united in pressing for the original NH-702 alignment Option-1 (Longleang-Longching-Aboi-Mon-Tizit) without any modification.
They also resolved that no NoC would be issued for new alignments within their jurisdiction under pressure from any quarter. The unions warned that any attempt to realign the original two-lane alignment would invite public movement, for which they would not be held responsible.
Emphasising that no other option or retention of border road should be compromised, the three unions stated that Option-1 would serve a larger population benefiting over 45 villages, which would otherwise be deprived of connectivity if Option-3 was adopted.
The units expressed gratitude to deputy chief minister and minister in-charge of national highways, T.R. Zeliang, for acknowledging their representation. They recalled that a meeting was held on July 24, 2025, in Zeliang’s office where a committee was constituted to examine their demand and submit its findings before August 15.
The units however expressed shock to learn that the committee’s scheduled site verification on the Sowa Changle and Longching section, as per the Works & Housing department’s tour diary dated August 1, 2025, was cancelled without proper intimation and reason.
Urging the committee to conduct the site verification without delay, the three units assured full cooperation and reiterated that they would continue to stand united in demanding their rightful development through the implementation of NH-702 alignment Option-1.
