Ato Kilonser, Ino. Alezo Venuh, GPRN Naga Unification
Distinguished Guests, Ladies and Gentlemen, and comrades. I thank Almighty Jehovah, the creator of our beloved Nagaland. I extend my heartfelt Naga Independence Day greetings to all across our cherished homeland. Every Independence Day, we gather with the hope and vision of a Dawn when the Nagas will awaken to an Independent Naga Nation. For the past 78 Years, generation after generation, the spirit for an absolutely Sovereign Naga Nation has been the driving force of our lives. Yet, the declaration of Naga Independence on the eve of this day in 1947, is to become a reality. Friends, today we are at the crossroads in every sphere of life. If we fail to address the stagnation and stillness in our economic growth and progress, we will be caught in a whirlpool, that drags us into selfdestruction, more divisions, bifurcations of our geopolitical landscapes will only create new boundaries among ourselves.
Unity cannot be achieved by voicing the same ideals in different tones and platforms. Likewise, unity born out of compulsions driven by outside forces and will be superficial and will short lived. Time is ripe to reassure ourselves, revamp our political structure and manage our resources and more effectively.
Our democratic polity evolved long before the Scottish renaissance and birth of modern political institutions. We strive to protect and uphold the Naga Parliamentary system of Tatar Hoho, without being dismantled by the Westminster system.
The traditional Naga system of democratic governance and administration has no parallel even in the contemporary Socio-Political institutions. Every Naga Tribal Country is a Federation Independent Village Republics. This political structure is marked by Cohesion and strict adherence to the regulations of the Village. We must safeguard this Unique Historical Political system without falling prey to the whims and of the neo-colonial political influence. Each Village Republic has an unwritten Constitution – our Naga Customary Laws, Practices, Procedures, and both Civil and Criminal laws, – along the systems for the rational management of land and resources. The Sovereign Republic of Naga Countries must be institutionalized.
We must ask ourselves why and how we have failed to reestablish the Federal Structure envisaged by our forefathers. No Power in the world can challenge our determination, if we remain committed to secure our indigenous system.
It is time to revisit the narratives of the 19th and 20th Centuries. Two great civilizations met on the wrong platform, at the wrong point of time. Suspicion and confrontation follow, while the masterminds of this conflict walked away, leaving Naga territories became as a theatre of bloodshed. We owe honest and truthful to the ancestors who dreamed of freedom and faced the canes and bullets with valour nationalism. Every time we turn our weapons on our people, or look at each other with suspicion. We are committing criminal injustice to our ancestors, to ourselves and our future generations. We must re-examine our own narrative and decide on the kind of understanding required to resolve the differences, conflicts and confrontations. We respect each and every Naga Community, regardless of size or history. Only then can we earn honour and respect from within an outside. Honourable political solution will follow naturally when we stand united, with our heads held high and our feet firmly on the ground.
Can we leave a broken and insecure social-political environment for our future generations? While we were caught in the war, our own people misused the situation and went for a subservient parallel political situation. The Power Centres that sowed the seeds of deprivation and accumulation of wealth, drained off much of our human and natural resources. Our Territories and people became rippled and crippled.
Naga National Governments did not extend to the general public and could not make any investments or policy approaches for the economic growth or institutional development of the people. This paved the way for external political ideologies to creep in and to exploit the situation.
In reality, the question on India became more and more pronounced as they divide among the Nagas became centered on power politics and consolidation of wealth. The beginning was set in the early 1970s within the Naga Movement. As situations continued for decades, and reached a point that needed a reorientation, a few likeminded National Workers came together and formed the neutral entity, as balancing force, the NSCN Naga Unification. We have faced stiff resistance and assault from all corners and the situation still continues.
Working Committee NNPG’s, do not stand for a give and take policy. We have to take first, observe the viabilities and then we decide over what to give. in the wake of contemporary realities. When we address the political issues, the mistakes committed in the processes cannot be justified. If we try to create narratives for our comfort level and convenience, it will be a treacherous move to further widen the gap between us.
Therefore, the leaders have to keep in mind that what we address are taken into the hearts by the people.
If we present an unrealistic picture before the people, we are deceiving ourselves and the trust they have deposed. They give us everything, food, shelter and every possible means to carry forward the mission. It is time to give back to people what was assured to them, it cannot be delayed for an indefinite period.
The world is growing at a pace that every microsecond is precious. We have to think in terms of man hours, every hour we spend is equal to a month in terms of man hours for the Nagas, so far, the matters are still lying with National leadership. A collective decision has to be made, otherwise the Government of India will not take up the matter further. The Government of India has made their position clear.
Kedahge, K. Vadeo, Federal Govt. of Nagaland
Dear Citizens,
We are fortunate to get this opportunity today to celebrate the 79th Naga Independence Day, the 14th August, 2025. I take this opportunity as my proud privilege to address the Nation in this auspicious occasion. Today’s celebration is unique because our people get an opportunity to reiterate the declaration of our ‘Independence’ on 14th August 1947, one day ahead of India’s declaration of her Independence. I alsotake this opportunity to be special because of the fact that we are reiterating the DECLARATION OF OUR FREEDOM once again from the native village of “The Father of the Nation” A.Z.Phizo. I would like to convey my high appreciation andregard to the people of Khonoma Village for their leadership.
The observance of important National Days are the time to remind ourselves the history of our pastand also to renew our commitment to the Nation. The Naga struggle is considered to be one of the longest political struggles in the history of mankind. Ours is a fight against external aggression. Ours is not only about the past but the problem is very much alive with us today. Nagashave been fighting for the last many years against the mighty Indian forces but we have survived all the odds, because our Naga cause has firm foundation.
It was unfortunate that the Naga political problem was intentionally complicated by few Naga leaders who felt prey to the whims of our political adversaries. It is presumed that our adversaries continued to use the same formula resulting in the creation of so many factions today among the so called national workers. This situation has confused the public badly today and the result of it is that we find many people are on the wrong platform. We will not blame anybody for it. But at the same time, we find it very necessary to make our people understand clearlythe stand and policy of NNC in the form of reclaiming the original stand of NNC.
For NNC, we have no confusion. The NNC President, Gen.(Rtd.) Thinoselie M. Keyho had summarized the stand of Naga National Council in his Presidential address during the last “ Plebiscite Day” on May 16, 2025.and I want to reiterate some of those important points once again.
(1)My Government is fully committed to the policies and principles laid down by the Naga National Council, (NNC) the one and only Political Institution for the Nagas.
(2) My Government is guided by the provisions of the Yezabo of Naga National Council in every decisions and actions that we take.
(3)We stand by the Naga Voluntary Plebiscite of 1951 in which 99,9% voted in favour of Naga Sovereignty. Not a single soul voted against it.
(4) We stand by the declarationmade by Naga elders to the Simon Commissionin 1929that we are free people.
(5) We uphold the declaration of Naga Independence on 14th August, 1947, one day ahead of Indian Independence.
(6) NNC will continue to fight against the external aggression of the Indian forces till we clear our God’s given Nagaland of outside forces. We will overcome.
Nagas are peace loving people and we want to live in peace with our neighbours. With the policy of ‘non-violence’, we will continue to put across our democratic rights and our birthrights from this platform for achieving our goal.
As stated earlier, the political situation in Nagaland has been intentionally complicated by some Naga leaders who felt an easy prey to our political adversaries. I do not believe that the so called ‘factions’ have come up due to differences of political principles and ideologies between the political leaders but they might have been lured to act against one another with some kind of temptation by outside forces, to which many of our leaders yieldedblindly by compromising the right of the Naga people.
To speak the truth, members of the so called factions had gone away from NNC in search of greener pasture. We do not know and it is not our concern also to talk about whether they have gained something out of it. They might have gained in some other ways but as far as the Naga political problem is concerned, they have only created many side issues to overshadow the main issue so that they keep themselves busy trying to overtake one another. The situation does not help even those people who are indulging in such comical games. Creation of factions have complicated the situation and perhaps, that itself has confused the factions thoroughly which let them to a position where they can neither go forward nor backward.
This being the exact situation, I put a challenge to all my earlier comrades to come out openly without hesitation if they realize that Nagas should stand together as one body if we are to live as a people. Therefore, for those who have realization I want to extend my heartfelt invitation to them to come back home as the saying goes, ‘there is nothing like home’. Nagas can achieve our goal only through the platform of Naga National Council and Federal Government of Nagaland. There is no other alternative. NNC is the only traditional political umbrella for each and every Naga.
I want to request the Nagas leaders to make our choice not on factions but on political principle.NNC is the Political Institution with firm principles and NNC is the political institution which brought the Nagas together.Naga National Council and the Federal Government of Nagaland have no connection whatsoever with the Indian Constitution; in other words, we have nothing to do with the constitution of India.
NNC/FGN belong to the Naga people. NNC/FGN is the torch bearer to uphold the birth right of the Naga people. NNC/FGN will remain steadfast till we clear the aggressors from our soil.
Therefore, in this political journey, we do not want to leave anybody behind.Friends, whatever may be your past, you can be a new person today with new decision where you can look forward with new hope.
But remember that time waits for no one.
Kindly accept thisinvitation as ‘The Naga Calling’.
Long live Naga National Council & The Federal Government of Nagaland.
K U K N A L I M.
President Lieut. Gen (Retd) Khango Konyak, NSCN/GPRN
My Dear Countrymen!
On this historic day of the 79th Naga Independence Day, We give all glory and honor to our Almighty God for sustaining the Nagas through this arduous journey for by him alone we have come thus far and shall forge ahead till we achieve our goal. I extend my warm revolutionary greeting to all my compatriots and fellow Nagas.
We pay solemn tributes to all the brave sons and daughters of the soil for having stood the test of time and sacrificing their lives for our sacred cause. Their ultimate sacrifice will be forever etched in history and their martyrdom will continue to inspire our today.
We gather here today to reaffirm our commitment to exist as a sovereign Nation as solemnly pledged by our fore fathers, History has shown that the Nagas has existed as a sovereign nation since time immemorial and we were never subjected to any outside rule.
My dear brothers and sisters, the Naga Political Struggle as we know has traversed through a strenuous journey filled with trials and tribulations and I don’t see the need to elaborate more on that but all these has shaped the present political scenario.
Today, we are at the crossroad where our fight for the God given right to live as a free nation has turned into a struggle for survival and supremacy. While acknowledging the growing discontentment among the general populace as a consequence of discord and fractionalization of Naga Political parties which has resulted in the creation of multiple separate entities. Our struggle to safeguard the inherent right of the Nagas and champion its Cause still remains resolute.
The NSCN will never betray the trust placed on us at all cost nor will it yield to the multiple wicked schemes conspired against the NSCN by our adversaries with sinister purpose to demoralize our people and undermine the very principle we stand for. Through these adversity we have only emerged stronger and we will continue to defend the honor and virtue of the NSCN with unshakable commitment.
My dear comrades, the recent selflessness act of the NNPA in merging with the NNPG characterize our genuine approach to listen to the clarion call of the Civil Society organizations to unite and find a common ground so as to expedite for an early Naga political solution.
Let us be clear that as much as it is the duty of every Naga to defend our Political history it is equally of paramount importance that we truly understand the current Political context and collectively strive forward to resolve the Naga issue permanently. Our approach to this end should be pragmatic and realistic.
Lastly but not the least, I take this opportunity to thank various NGOs, CSOs, Church Leaders, Student bodies and all the stakeholders for their unwavering commitment and support. Let us reaffirm ourselves to serve the nation selflessly and with renewed dedication, let us humble ourselves before God and trust in his plan for only through God shall we emerge Victorious.
GOD BLESS NAGALAND!
KUKNALIM
Y. Wangtin Naga, President, NSCN/GPRN- Reformation
On this momentous occasion of the 79th Naga Independence Day, I, on behalf of all NSCN (Reformation) comrades, pay tribute to our revered Naga leaders who were the torchbearers of our national movement.
These great souls, some of whom passed away naturally while others were martyred by enemy forces, have left an enduring legacy that continues to guide and inspire generations of Nagas. Their sacrifices remain the cornerstone of our struggle.
I also salute the living freedom fighters who, in the 1960s and 1970s, journeyed to East Pakistan in their youth to fight for our freedom. Their sacred movement, which thrived until the 1980s, was once a united and formidable force.
Regrettably, this invincible movement has since fragmented into over thirty groups, driven by personal gain, self-glorification, and ego. Tribalism, groupism, and clannism have eroded our unity, as we have strayed from seeking the Lord and instead pursued individual glory.
Today, the two primary signatory groups – NNPGs and NSCN (IM) – fail to coexist harmoniously, prioritizing self-interest over the collective good of the Naga people. This division has hindered our progress. I urge all Nagas – big and small, politicians, officers, business leaders, churches, and civil society organizations – to come together and reflect on why we are so deeply divided. We must identify what has gone wrong and why unity remains elusive.
The Naga political groups must recognize their shortcomings and work toward reconciliation. Loving and appreciating each other’s positions and circumstances is essential for healing our divisions. Making peace with adversaries while harboring hatred for our brothers has led us astray from our shared political history. Our independence, a divine gift and a spontaneous expression of our collective will, must never infringe upon the interests of our people.
As we celebrate this sacred day, I salute the leaders of NNPGs, NSCN (IM), and all Naga political groups. Despite the present divisions, each has in their own
way contributed to the survival of our cause. Their indestructible contributions are our collective heritage. We must take pride in the history inherited from our great leaders and use it as a unifying tool to free ourselves from the yoke of adversity. Let us come together, respect our shared legacy, and love one another as we strive for true liberation.
I extend my heartfelt respect and best wishes to all Naga political groups celebrating our Independence Day in their respective camps. May we all have a blessed and joyful 79th Naga Independence Day. KUKNALIM
LONG LIVE NAGA NATION
