Rengma Hoho to abstain from I-Day celebration

DIMAPUR, AUG 14 (NPN)

In line with the collective decision of the five tribes under the banner of the 5 Tribes CoRRP, the Rengma Hoho (RH) has announced that Rengma community will not participate in the Independence Day celebration on August 15, 2025.
In a statement, RH president Er. Tesinlo Semy said the decision was prompted by the State Government’s continued inaction in addressing the core demands of the five tribes—either to repeal the Nagaland Reservation Policy or to allocate the unreserved quota to the five tribes.
RH further expressed concern over the recent Cabinet decision to include Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) as members of the Commission, and the move to link the review of the reservation policy to the 2027 census. According to RH, these developments was contrary to the collective aspirations of the five tribes.
The Hoho reiterated its stand in solidarity with the broader tribal consensus and called upon the State Government to take meaningful steps toward resolving the issue in a manner that reflects fairness and inclusivity.
