Minister of Roads and Bridges, Kaito G. Aye on Friday reiterated the state government’s commitment to improving road connectivity across Nagaland, while highlighting key initiatives undertaken by the department.
Addressing the 79th Independence Day at Dimapur District Sports Council Complex, Kaito highlighted the state government’s achievements. He also informed that under Inter-State Connectivity Scheme, upgradation of the Dhobinalla Junction to Diphu road into a 2-lane highway and construction of a 2-lane interstate road from Chizami to Lai (Manipur) have been completed.
Later, talking to media, and answering queries on potholes on the recently reconstructed approach road of the Road Over Bridge, Kaito clarified that although the road did not fall under his department, he would personally inspect the site and inform the concerned department for necessary action. On the proposed flyover in Dimapur, Kaito revealed that the project could not proceed due to lack of clearance from the Railways. He assured that Dimapur would receive its due share of maintenance funds under and expressed confidence that several development works would be undertaken in the district.
He also said that since Dimapur, Kohima, and Mokokchung now fall under municipal councils, the Urban Development department would oversee road maintenance through funds allocated under the 16th municipal council.
Earlier, the celebration began with the hoisting of the National Flag in all government offices and institutions. At DDSC Complex, the programme commenced with the fall-in of parade contingents and a parade review by newly Commissioner of Police, Dimapur, Aotula T. Imchen.
As part of the Beti Bachao Beti Padhao initiative, awards were presented to female achievers. The event also featured patriotic songs by students of Government Higher Secondary School, Lengrijan, and cultural performances by Christian Higher Secondary School and Sargam Cultural Association.
