In keeping with time-honoured customs, the menfolk of Zhavame village undertook a mass social work along the agricultural stretch from Chilüdü to Phrübu, reaffirming their commitment to community service and ancestral legacy on August 13.
The annual exercise, carried out after completion of essential farming and village duties, focuses on the upkeep of the agricultural road—a vital link for transportation of produce and access to farmlands. More than a practical endeavour, the initiative reflects the village’s enduring values of unity, cooperation, and respect for tradition.
As per customary practice, the day also observes a distinct division of roles. While the men engage in road maintenance, the womenfolk remain at home, contributing through household tasks and traditional crafts such as weaving and basket-making.
In instances where women visit the fields, tradition dictates they return before the men conclude their work, in adherence to beliefs surrounding omens and communal harmony.
By preserving this practice, Zhavame village continues to honour its cultural heritage while ensuring the functionality of its agricultural infrastructure for future generations.
