Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee (NPCC) held a mass joining programme at Congress Bhavan, Kohima, on August 16, welcoming 220 new members from various parts of Kohima district into the party fold.
Addressing the gathering, NPCC president and Lok Sabha MP S. Supongmeren Jamir said the Congress remains committed to good governance, quality education, employment generation, and inclusive development. He assured that the party would work to translate these priorities into tangible outcomes, especially to meet the aspirations of Nagaland’s youth.
NPCC working president (Administrative Zone A), Khriedi Theünuo, underscored the importance of grassroots mobilisation in strengthening the party’s foundation. He cautioned against policies that could erode India’s linguistic diversity and unity, and reaffirmed the Congress party’s enduring commitment to secularism. “The decision of these members to join the party even when it is not in power reflects their conviction in the Congress vision,” he stated.
The programme was chaired by Khuvishe (Atomu), working president of DCC Kohima, and began with an invocation by NPCC secretary Seyievilie Sachü. DCC Kohima president Ketseiyie Mere delivered the welcome address. Senior party officials, frontal chiefs, cell and department chairpersons, and district leaders were present.
Meanwhile, the Nagaland Youth Congress (NYC) launched the nationwide ‘Stop Vote Chori’ campaign at the venue. The initiative aims to raise awareness against electoral malpractices and uphold democratic values. NYC leaders said the campaign would include outreach programmes and mobilisations across the state, urging citizens to stand united for free and fair elections.
