ZYON, ZSUN indefinite bandh in Peren from today

DIMAPUR, AUG 18 (NPN)

Zeliangrong Youth Organisation Nagaland (ZYON) and Zeliangrong Students’ Union Nagaland (ZSUN) have jointly announced an indefinite bandh across Peren district with effect from August 19, in protest against government inaction for nearly five months over the alleged rape and murder of a woman, whose body was found in a forest near Pimla village under Chümoukedima district on April 7, 2025.
In a joint statement, ZYON president R. John Zeliang, general secretary Chahut Kerin Newmai and Action Committee convenor Joshua Kamsuan said the bandh was necessitated after exhausting all avenues and aimed at compelling the authorities to address their legitimate demands for justice.
Exemptions: The organisations informed that exemptions would be strictly limited to medical services, paramilitary forces, fire and emergency services, educational institutions and district administration vehicles (DC, ADC, EAC and other essential official vehicles clearly marked on urgent duty).
During the bandh period, the following restrictions would be enforced– all government offices within Peren district to remain closed, except those under the exemption list; all government-registered vehicles, excluding district administration vehicles listed above, banned from plying within the district; prohibition of movement along National Highway-129A passing through Peren district and Manipur-bound commercial trucks and interstate night super buses barred from entering or plying within Peren district.
The organisations appealed to every citizen of Peren district to extend full cooperation and observe the bandh peacefully and with discipline, cautioning that violence or vandalism would undermine their cause. They also requested the public to report any untoward incidents to ZYON/ZSUN volunteers.
“Only by standing shoulder to shoulder can we demonstrate the unwavering resolve and compel the authorities to address our legitimate demands,” they said.
They further stated that the duration of the indefinite bandh would depend entirely on the response of the authorities to their demands, adding that normalcy would return only when justice was delivered.
