Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) Medziphema, P. James Swu, on Tuesday issued two separate orders directing both Molvom village and Medziphema village to withdraw their youths gathered along the highways under its jurisdiction.
In an order, the ADC stated that it had come to his notice that villagers and youths of Molvom village had gathered along the National Highway passing through the village. Such congregation, he noted, was causing apprehension and inconvenience to commuters, with reports that some commuters were being stopped and questioned.
Pointing out that such actions created fear and tension, which were not conducive to maintaining public peace and tranquillity, the ADC directed Molvom Village Council to immediately ensure that no gatherings, patrolling or vigil by youths or villagers take place along the highway. He further assured that adequate police forces had been deployed along the route to ensure safety and free movement of commuters.
In a separate order, the ADC observed that Medziphema village had deployed members of the Medziphema Village Youth Organisation along the Jharnapani–Chathe highway to demonstrate resentment against Molvom village and to prevent their entry into Medziphema area.
ADC said that their presence was causing inconvenience to the general public and commuters.
Although the matter was discussed during a coordination meeting with Medziphema village representatives in the presence of the police department on August 18, and an agreement was reached for withdrawal of youths, the ADC said it was found that some youths were still stationed along the highway, causing apprehension to the public.
ADC, therefore, directed Medziphema Village Council to ensure complete withdrawal of its youths from the said location to uphold the principle of free movement. ADC cautioned that failure to comply with either order would invite necessary action as per relevant laws.
DC convenes meeting: Deputy Commissioner (DC) Chümoukedima, Polan John, has convened a meeting on August 20 at 11 a.m. in his office chamber to discuss the prevailing situation in Medziphema sub-division. According to the DC’s office, those requested to attend the meeting include the ADC Medziphema; presidents of Chakhroma Public Organisation and Kuki Inpi Nagaland along with two members each and Molvom village council and Medziphema village council along with five members each.
It may be recalled that the Gauhati High Court Kohima Bench on July 24 directed the Nagaland government not to proceed with renaming of Molvom village or Molvom Railway Station, and to ensure protection of lives and properties of the villagers until further orders.
Justice Yarenjungla Longkumer passed the interim order while hearing a writ petition (WP(C)/129/2025) filed by Molvom Village Council chairman Letkhojang and chief/GB Letjahao Misao, challenging the renaming and land acquisition process for the proposed “Nagaki Incubation City” at Chathe Valley under Medziphema sub-division.
