Naga Council Dimapur inducts new team of office bearers

Naga Council Dimapur (NCD) held its induction and oath-taking ceremony of the new team of office bearers on Wednesday at Town Hall, Dimapur.
The new team of office bearers, led by GK Rengma as president, includes M. Biremong as vice president (Adm), M. Sapong Chang as vice president (council bench), L.K. Peter as general secretary, Levusie Nyuthe as joint secretary (Adm), Thejangule Kire as joint secretary (attached to president), Medovie Koza as finance secretary, Tiatemsu Longchar as media cell secretary and Hotoshe Sumi as treasurer, among others, for the tenure 2025 to 2030.
Delivering the presidential address, outgoing NCD president, Etsungmomo Kikon, expressed gratitude to Almighty God, stating that it was through divine grace that the council was able to complete its tenure successfully. He reminded that NCD was founded in 1949 at a time when Dimapur was experiencing rapid growth of both Naga population and communities from other parts of the country.
He said its founding purpose was to uphold the unity of the Nagas, while also fostering understanding and harmony among the many communities living in Dimapur.
He said over the decades, NCD has assisted local administration and police in maintaining law and order, safeguarding human rights, and upholding peace and harmony in Dimapur.
He highlighted achievements under his leadership, including introduction of a systematic burial system, NCD’s representation in District Planning and Development Board (DPDB), celebration of the Council’s 75th anniversary, expansion and blessing of the new Naga Cemetery, sanction of funds for the construction of the NCD office building, and commitment for world-class sports and development of Dimapur.
To the newly elected councillors, he extended congratulations, reminding them that it was not just a recognition of their abilities, but a call to higher service. He concluded his speech with a verse from the Book of Isaiah 40:31. (Full speech on p-6)
In his speech, the newly elected president, GK Rengma expressed humility and gratitude for the trust reposed in him. He said the victory belonged to every citizen who dreams of a Dimapur united in purpose, rich in culture, and strong in values.
Rengma, who has served nearly 40 years in public service across various organisations, said his guiding principle had always been unity, respect, and cooperation across communities. He said NCD was the collective voice of the people, tasked with preserving identity, protecting rights, and working for the welfare of all citizens irrespective of tribe, faith, or background.
He pledged to cooperate with the district administration and police in keeping Dimapur safe, to create a conducive business environment, and to make Dimapur a home for all citizens irrespective of caste or religion.
Deputy Commissioner of Dimapur, Dr. Tinojongshi Chang, in his speech, said the event marked not just a formal transition of leadership but also a reaffirmation of a shared vision to uphold unity, promote peace and work for the collective welfare of all Naga communities living in Dimapur and beyond.
He lauded the outgoing team for their service and sacrifice, acknowledging their role in carrying responsibilities with integrity despite challenges. To the new office bearers, he offered congratulations and reminded them that leadership in NCD was not a position of status, but a call to serve with humility, courage and vision.
Dr. Chang said leadership in NCD was guided not by personal gain but by collective work for the benefit of people, built on truth, respect of tradition, and unity in diversity as reflected in NCD’s motto “All in One”.
He emphasized Dimapur’s unique position as a melting pot of diverse cultures and a city of strategic importance for Nagaland. He urged the new team to safeguard citizens’ rights while promoting inter-community harmony, inclusiveness, and accountability.
Earlier, the programme was chaired by Ben Pamai, invocation was offered by Rev. Tenga Seb, oath taking was administered by chairman, nomination committee Hokuto Zhimomi; dedicatory prayer was offered by Rev. Dr. N. Paphino, while vote of thanks was delivered by councillor, Imtisangba Aier.
