KUC commends NSHRC for action in custodial death case

DIMAPUR

The Khiamniungan Union Chumoukedima (KUC) has expressed deep appreciation to the Nagaland State Human Rights Commission (NSHRC) for its proactive intervention in the custodial death case of Lt. Pashu Khiamniungan, which occurred at Chumoukedima Police Station on October 3, 2023.
In a press release issued by KUC president P. Malai stated that taking suo motu cognizance of the incident, the Commission recognized negligence on the part of the police personnel on duty and directed the award of Rs. 5 lakh in compensation to the bereaved family. The compensation has since been disbursed, alongside disciplinary actions initiated by the Government, offering a measure of solace to the grieving family.
In a statement, the Khiamniungan Union Chumoukedima, along with the victim’s family, acknowledged the support extended by various individuals and groups during their time of loss. They particularly lauded the NSHRC for upholding the rights of vulnerable citizens and ensuring accountability within public institutions.
The Union further encouraged citizens to approach the Commission in cases of human rights violations, emphasizing its role as a vital forum for redressal and the protection of human dignity.
