Nagaland University’s School of Agricultural Sciences (NU: SAS), Medziphema Campus, observed “Anti-Ragging Week” from August 11 to 18, under the national campaign banner #YaARIYouthAgainstRagging. The week-long initiative aimed to foster a safe and inclusive campus environment through a series of awareness and creative activities.
The inaugural programme commenced with the Nagaland University Anthem, followed by an invocation by the EU president and opening remarks from Associate Dean, Prof. J. Longkumer, and Pro-Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dipak Sinha. Students took an anti-ragging pledge, reaffirming their commitment to a respectful and supportive academic community.
Throughout the week, interclass competitions were organised to engage students in anti-ragging advocacy. Events included poster making, essay writing, slogan writing, debate, skits, and video reel creation. Winners in each category were recognised for their contributions:
Poster Making (Theme: “Creating a Safer Campus”): First – Inakito Achumi, Second – Kulbinu Khatso, Third – Sushanta Saha.
Essay Writing (Theme: “Ragging and its Effect on Academic Performance”): First – Sheyao Keangsay Konyak, Second – Lelin Uchoi, Third – Atsulam.
Slogan Writing (Theme: “Creating a Safer Campus”): First – Neinuo Shine Kiso, Second – Benthong Y Khiamniungan, Third – Sanglenshi Yimchunger.
Video Reel Making: Winner – B.Sc. (Hons) Agriculture 3rd Year class
Skit Competition: First – 3rd Year B.Sc. (Hons) Agriculture, Second – 2nd Year B.Sc. (Hons) Agriculture
Debate Competition (Topic: “Psychological ragging is more harmful than physical”): First – Ongchu Phom, Second – Achim Rose, Third – Illunding.
The valedictory programme on August 18 included speeches by Dean, School of Agricultural Sciences, Prof. L. Daiho and Pro-Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Dipak Sinha, who reiterated the university’s commitment to maintaining a safe and welcoming atmosphere for all students. A video montage of anti-ragging messages from university officials and students was screened, followed by the prize distribution ceremony.
Additional hostel sensitization efforts were led by the PhD Forum, and the newly elected SAS Students’ Union pledged to continue promoting anti-ragging awareness. The week’s activities were coordinated by the office of the Associate Dean, Students’ Welfare, NU: SAS, Medziphema Campus.
