The ICAR–Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Wokha, has been conferred the prestigious title of Best KVK in the North Eastern Region by the ICAR–National Research Centre for Banana (NRCB). The recognition, selected from over 200 nominations, highlights the centre’s exemplary contributions to agricultural development and community engagement.
The award was presented during the 32nd Foundation Day and Kisan Mela held at the Conference Hall of ICAR–NRCB, Tiruchirappalli, on August 21, 2025. Director of ICAR–Indian Institute of Horticultural Research (IIHR), Bengaluru, Dr. Tusar Kanti Behera, attended the event as the special guest.
KVK Wokha attributed the achievement to the collective efforts of its team, the district administration, Agriculture and Allied Departments of Wokha, and the farming community. The department reaffirmed its commitment to pursuing further initiatives aimed at uplifting farmers and enhancing agricultural practices in the region.
As part of the event, 19 farmers from Nagaland participated in the mela to gain insights into banana cultivation and preparation for upcoming banana festivals in the state. The farmers are currently undergoing training in Integrated Nutrient Management, Hi-Tech Banana Cultivation, Integrated Pest and Disease Management and Food Processing.
The training programme will continue in Kerala from August 23, where participants will further enhance their expertise in advanced banana cultivation techniques and value addition strategies.
