Advisor for Labour & Employment, Skill Development & Entrepreneurship, and Excise, Moatoshi Longkumer, on Saturday inaugurated the newly constructed approach road to Rilan Village, funded under the Local Area Development Programme (LADP) 2024–25.
Speaking at the inaugural programme held at Rilan, Longkumer described the occasion as the fulfilment of a long-standing commitment and emphasized the importance of integrity and accountability in public service. He urged leaders and citizens to remain truthful to their commitments, stating that promises must not be made lightly or built on false narratives.
Highlighting the peaceful relations between Indisen and Rilan villages, Longkumer noted that while boundary disputes have caused tensions in many parts of the state, the two neighbouring villages have set an example by maintaining harmony. He called on both communities to continue fostering unity, adding that meaningful development can only thrive in an atmosphere of peace.
The Advisor also expressed gratitude to the land donors for their selfless contribution, stating that such acts of sacrifice pave the way for collective progress.
Chairman of Rilan Village Council, Y. Nzanbemo Lotha, in his address, said the approach road was a long-felt need as it connects over 80 households and the village cemetery to the highway.
He acknowledged earlier efforts by villagers to construct the road through community fundraising, which remained incomplete until the intervention of the Advisor made the project possible.
Lotha also urged residents to take shared responsibility for civic issues such as poor drainage in Dimapur, pointing out that problems often arise due to waste dumping and encroachment, and should not be blamed solely on elected representatives or the Dimapur Municipal Council (DMC).
The programme was chaired by Longshibemo Shitiri. A dedicatory prayer for the road was offered by Rev. Zanao Mozhui of LBCD, while the benediction was pronounced by Deacon Chumchamo Kithan.
