MGM College hosted its 9th Annual Freshers’ Program on August 22, marking a memorable and vibrant welcome for the new entrants to the college community.
The event was graced by president of the Ethnic Group of Nagaland, D. Ledia Awomi as the chief guest, who shared her wisdom and personal experiences with the students, inspiring them to pursue excellence with passion and determination. Administrator, MGM College, Fr. Giju George, also addressed the gathering with an encouraging message, emphasizing the value of the freshers’ program in nurturing unity and a sense of belonging within the college.
Adding further charm to the celebration, Alo A. Yepthomi, Miss Sumi 2024 Second Runner-up, served as the guest judge for the Freshers’ Contest. Guest artists Keren and Wobeni, along with solo performer Obed, infused the event with vibrancy and energy through their captivating performances.
The formal session featured a lively Introductory Round where freshers showcased their talents and unique personalities. This was followed by the Formal and Questioning Rounds, which tested the participants’ knowledge, confidence, and creativity. After a spirited competition, Viku Zhimomi was crowned Mr. Freshers, while Angughatoli Shohe was declared Miss Freshers. The Runner-up titles were awarded to Kuputo K. Yepthomi and Angel Tamang respectively. In addition, Kuputo K. Yepthomi received the title of Mr. Multimedia, while Mhachibeni Mozhui was named Miss Multimedia.
The event was anchored in two sessions, with the formal session hosted by Paul Munda and Rose Debbarma, and the informal session conducted by Hamlei Konyak and Lipeka Chishi. The program commenced with an invocation prayer led by assistant professor from the department of english, Ahikali I. Jakha, followed by a welcome address by MGMSC president, Mughapu Swu. A special musical performance by Inavitoli Swu added a melodious touch to the event, while a speech delivered by Epikhao on behalf of the freshers reflected the excitement and aspirations of the new batch
The celebration was further enriched by cultural performances, artistic displays, and various entertainment segments that highlighted the diversity and creativity of the student community. The program concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by general secretary, MGMSC Tiasunep Longkumer.
