DUCCF backs DNSU on indigenous certificate issue; seeks urgent probe

DIMAPUR, AUG 24 (NPN)

Extending support to the Dimapur Naga Students’ Union (DNSU) over the ongoing controversy surrounding the issuance of an indigenous certificate to Nirmal Jain, the Dimapur Urban Council Chairmen Federation (DUCCF) has urged the concerned authorities to address the matter with the seriousness it deserves.
In a statement issued by its information and publicity secretary, DUCCF stated that the issue holds significance not only for students but also for the integrity of Nagaland’s indigenous communities.
The federation lauded DNSU for its “exemplary leadership” and affirmed solidarity with the student body’s pursuit of justice and equity. It noted that DNSU had earlier raised concerns over the legitimacy of the indigenous certificate issued to Jain, alleging discrepancies in the process and calling for transparency and accountability. The union emphasized that such certification must reflect genuine heritage and identity, warning that any misrepresentation could undermine the rights of indigenous citizens.
Echoing DNSU’s sentiments, DUCCF stated that the integrity of indigenous certification is central to the cultural and social fabric of Nagaland. It stressed that the district administration must ensure a transparent and verifiable process in issuing such certificates to prevent future discrepancies.
The federation appealed to the authorities to urgently investigate the matter and uphold the sanctity of indigenous identity.
It further noted that the implications of the controversy extend beyond individual cases, impacting the broader community and the credibility of official documentation.
DUCCF also questioned the silence of Nirmal Jain and noted that if he is not guilty, he should come forward and clarify his position.
Reiterating its stand, DUCCF stated that the fight for clarity and fairness in indigenous certification is not merely administrative, but a matter of justice, equity, and rightful recognition. It called upon all stakeholders to act responsibly and ensure that the voices of indigenous communities are protected and respected.
