DIMAPUR, AUG 24 (NPN): Ao Students’ Conference (AKM) has expressed deep concern and disappointment over the recent transfer and posting of teachers as per notification dated August 22, 2025, issued by the Directorate of School Education (DoSE).
AKM president Lanutoshi Aier and education secretary Lanulemba Longchar acknowledged the importance of rationalisation as a policy to optimise human resources and improve learning outcomes. However, AKM said the notification appeared to prioritise the personal interests of teachers rather than the educational needs of students.
AKM said rationalisation of government teachers in Nagaland had been reduced to a system of favouritism and preferential treatment.
Expressing dismay that teachers were being transferred in the middle of the academic session, thus disrupting the continuity of education, AKM said rationalisation process failed to consider schools already struggling without sufficient teaching faculty.
AKM cited illogical decisions where transfers were carried out in schools facing shortages, while schools with excess teachers remained unaddressed. It said the department seemed to be disregarding the issue of excess teachers in certain schools.
According to AKM such arbitrary measures undermined the quality of education, especially in rural areas where students were already at a disadvantage.
AKM reiterated that it will not remain a silent spectator while discriminatory treatment was meted out to rural schools and stressed that no child should be deprived of quality education simply because rules were bent to suit the whims and fancies of a few individuals.
In the light of the above, AKM issued following directives to all Government schools under Mokokchung district demanding that release orders must not be issued to teachers serving in schools already facing shortage of faculty and joining reports must not be accepted from teachers posted to schools where teachers were already in excess.
AKM said it has taken note of loopholes in the present rationalisation process very seriously and reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring that students were not deprived of quality education due to shortage of teachers. AKM said its stand was clear – education must remain student-centered and therefore appealed to the community to extend cooperation and support towards this cause.
