The Japukong Students’ Conference (JKM) has expressed concern over the recent notification issued by the Department of School Education, Nagaland, regarding the transfer and posting of teachers.
In a press release, JKM president, Angemangyang and education secretary, Lanuakum Longchar extended full solidarity with the Ao Students’ Conference (AKM), which had earlier raised objections to the notification.
Highlighting the situation within the Japukong Range, JKM stated that government schools continue to face acute teacher shortages, leading to disrupted classes, overburdened faculty, and declining academic performance. The impact is particularly severe in rural areas, where students are left with limited learning opportunities, further widening the rural-urban education gap.
JKM emphasized that education must remain student-centered and that policies should be framed to ensure equitable and quality education for every child. The organization condemned any form of favoritism, personal interest, or administrative lapse that could jeopardize the academic future of students.
In line with AKM’s directives, JKM appealed that the release orders should not be issued to teachers serving in schools already facing shortages and joining reports must not be accepted from teachers posted to schools with excess staff.
These measures, JKM stated, were essential to maintain balance and prevent further deterioration in the functioning of government schools.
JKM also called upon community members, student bodies, and civil society organizations to extend cooperation in safeguarding the right to education.
