National Deworming Day observed across Nagaland

DIMAPUR

In line with the nationwide observance, National Deworming Day (NDD) was launched across various districts of Nagaland on August 26, 2025, with programmes held in Mon, Wokha, Phek and Kohima to promote awareness and administer Albendazole tablets to children aged 1–19 years.

Phek

In Phek district, the programme was launched at Government High School, Phek Town (Bethel Ward), led by District Programme Officer (RMNCHA &N) Dr. Khriekuolie Liezietsu.
He highlighted the benefits of Albendazole in improving nutritional status, reducing anemia, and enhancing cognitive performance and school attendance.
A total of 100 students and teachers received the deworming tablet. The programme will continue across schools, Anganwadi centres, and health facilities, with a mop-up round scheduled for September 2.

Kohima

In Kohima, the Office of the Chief Medical Officer under National Health Mission (NHM) conducted the NDD programme at Rüzhükhrie Government Higher Secondary School. DPO (RMNCAH+N) Dr. Khrievilhou Nakhro spoke on the health risks posed by worm infections and the direct and indirect benefits of deworming. MO (RBSK) Dr. Katila Longchar demonstrated six-step handwashing and handed over a First-Aid Kit to the school. The programme was chaired by DPM. Avikali Jakhalu, with vote of thanks delivered by Urban Consultant, Subonglemla Jamir.
The National Deworming Day initiative, spearheaded by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India, aims to ensure a worm-free future for children and improve their overall health, nutrition, and academic performance.

Mon

In Mon district, the District Health Society launched the programme at the conference hall of the Chief Medical Officer’s office. Chief Medical Officer Dr. Supongmenla Walling welcomed participants and emphasized the importance of the initiative, often overlooked due to its routine nature. She highlighted the causes and symptoms of worm infections, the action of Albendazole, and its role in preventing developmental delays in children.
The programme was chaired by Chaoya (GNM, RBSK), with invocation by Dr. Tsemtseh (MO, RBSK). School Health Coordinator Mewang Konyak outlined the implementation strategy, stating that the medicine would be distributed to all government and private schools, Anganwadi centres, and that ASHAs would conduct door-to-door visits to reach out-of-school children and those not enrolled in Anganwadi centres.

Wokha

In Wokha district, the second round of NDD was launched at Government High School, Liphayan, organized by the Rashtriya Bal Swasthya Karyakram (RBSK) team. Medical Officer Dr. Thunchanbeni Patton spoke on the objectives of NDD, noting its inception in February 2015 and its biannual observance. She briefed students on worm infestation symptoms, prevention, and hygiene practices, and also provided awareness on Anemia Mukt Bharat. Albendazole tablets were administered and health screening conducted by the RBSK team.
