A one-day workshop on “tour guiding” was organized by the Southern Angami Youth Organisation (SAYO) in collaboration with the Department of Tourism, Government of Nagaland at P. Khel Panchayat Hall, Viswema on August 27.
In a press release, SAYO informed that the workshop aimed to equip local youth and stakeholders with professional tour guiding skills, featuring experts from tourism, adventure and emergency response. The workshop reflected the growing emphasis on tourism as a key sector for sustainable livelihood in Nagaland and reaffirmed the commitment of SAYO and the Department of Tourism to empower local communities with the skills required to guide and host visitors with professionalism and cultural pride.
The technical sessions were led by Naga BIVOUAC, proprietor and former ex-chairman, Ecotourism Management Committee Khonoma, Neikedolie Hiekha, who covered the Principles of Tour Guiding, MC member IRCSN and St. John Ambulance of India, Master Trainer in First Aid, Kholie Dolf, covered first aid/emergency response, Nagaland Association for Adventure Mountaineering & Education, president, Ruokuovikho Chale, covered cultural sensitivity and destination knowledge and State Institute of Hotel Management Dimapur (SIHMD), Principal, Deepak Shrivasta, covered awareness on various educational and career opportunities at their institute.
A highlight of the programme was the formal launching of the Southern Angami Tourist Guide Council, declared by SAYO president, Zasitolie Beio. An interactive session was also held during the workshop.
The programme was led by finance secretary SAYO, Teisovi Thorie, invocation prayer by Christian Revival Church, Viswema, assistant pastor, Mayo Vitsu, welcome address by Action Committee SAYO, member secretary, Thepfuruko Valeo and introduction of the workshop by Department of Tourism, Government of Nagaland, assistant director, Moatemsu Sangtam and concluded with remarks from Department of Tourism, Tourist Officer, Abigael Solo.
