A farmer training programme on silkworm rearing techniques was conducted at Kiyeto Village, Chümoukedima on August 27 under the Mera Resham Mera Abhiman (MRMA) initiative, aimed at enhancing farmers’ knowledge and skills in scientific silkworm rearing.
The programme was graced by District Sericulture Officer, Mayangjal Walling, and Dr. Anil Kumar S.T., Scientist-B, who served as resource persons.
Dr. Anil Kumar S.T. highlighted various techniques of eri silkworm rearing and encouraged farmers to transition from traditional methods to modern scientific practices to ensure better survival rates, uniform growth, and higher cocoon yield. He stressed the importance of hygiene, adequate ventilation, and proper feeding schedules for healthier silkworms. Addressing the gathering, District Sericulture Officer Mayangjal Walling emphasized the need for farmers to stay updated with current rearing practices. She underscored the importance of timely disinfection, disease management, and adoption of improved technologies to reduce losses and enhance cocoon quality.
The training programme was part of ongoing efforts to promote sustainable sericulture and empower local farmers through capacity building.
