Suspected wartime bomb of 45kgs detected in Manipur

A suspected wartime bomb of 45 kg was found in a truckload of sand in a truckload of sand delivered to the house of Moirangthem Nabachandra (57) of Khangabok Makha Leikai under Thoubal police station on early August 28 morning.
The bomb was discovered beneath the sand by the construction workers on Saturday morning and was later defused by experts of the Manipur police bomb detection and disposal squad on Saturday afternoon around 4.30 pm.
The house owner ordered the sand for construction of his house and it was transported in a Tata Dumper truck from Heirok River.
Thoubal police station registered a case in connection with the incident and initiated further investigation at the spot where the sand was collected, officials said.
Detection of wartime bombs in Manipur where various battles were fought during the World War -2 was not a new one. Many such incidents have occurred in the past too.
