Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party (NDPP) held the installation and oath-taking ceremony of the newly elected office bearers of the 27 Mokokchung Town Assembly Constituency (A/C) and its Units for the 2024–2027 tenure on August 29, at the Multi-Purpose Indoor Stadium, Imkongmeren Sports Complex, Mokokchung.
The ceremony was officiated by president, NDPP Mokokchung Region, Repameren, who administered the oath to a total of 397 party members representing the five units of the constituency, Kumlong, Mongsenbai, Kichutip, Salangtem, and Aongza wards.
Delivering the keynote address, minister of rural development & SIRD, Metsubo Jamir, encouraged the newly inducted office bearers to uphold the values, principles, and vision of the NDPP. He reminded them that their duty extended beyond party lines, emphasizing their responsibility to serve the people with integrity and commitment. He warned against internal disruptions, urging members to remain aligned and disciplined within the party framework. Acknowledging the contributions of past leaders, he emphasized continuity in leadership and collective growth across all constituencies in Mokokchung.
With elections on the horizon, Jamir called for unity among the seven Assembly Constituencies currently held by the NDPP in Mokokchung. “This team will face the election,” he stated, encouraging members to work cohesively for the party’s goals. He also stressed self-reflection and the true essence of politics, urging office bearers to serve selflessly and rise above vote-centric politics.
Jamir also highlighted a recent medical camp organized by the 27 Mokokchung Town A/C Youth Organization, which reached out to economically disadvantaged individuals. “It was an eye-opener, it showed that people must be helped out of love, not for votes,” he said.
In a significant move for youth empowerment, Jamir inaugurated a skill development programme by cutting the ribbon for the induction of 100 trainees from Mokokchung Town for training and placement in hotel management, under the Honda India Foundation CSR initiative. The programme aims to provide global job opportunities, including placements in Japan, Dubai, and other hospitality destinations.
Later in the day, Jamir also graced the 5th Football Tournament-cum-Penalty Shootout as guest of honour, organized by the 27 Mokokchung Town A/C Youth Organization at the same venue. Vice president, NDPP Central Executive Board (CEB), Marchizüng, also delivered a brief address during the event.
The program was chaired by president, Women Organization, 27th A/C, Meyila Jamir and invocation by president, Kichutip Unit, Imtioshi. Welcome address was delivered by president, 27th A/C.C, Tia Longkumer.
