Kohima District Football Association (KDFA) and the Assam Rifles (AR) have formally resolved their recent differences, bringing an end to KDFA’s earlier resolution of non-cooperation with the paramilitary force.
In a statement issued by KDFA joint secretary (administration) Viliebeizo Liezietsu and press secretary Medolenuo Loucü, the association informed that the matter was settled after a meeting held on Sunday, August 31, at Hotel 2K, Kohima. The meeting was attended by KDFA officials, officers of the 13 and 45 Assam Rifles, and family members of the late Capt. N. Kengurüse.
According to KDFA, the issue was discussed threadbare for over two hours, following which both sides reached an amicable resolution. The association expressed gratitude to district football associations across the state for their solidarity during the impasse.
Reaffirming its objectives, KDFA said it remained committed to supporting initiatives that promote football and nurture young talents in Kohima district and Nagaland as a whole.
It may be recalled that on August 28, in a press statement KDFA had announced its decision to withdraw cooperation with AR in connection with the upcoming 9th Capt. N. Kengurüse Memorial Championship. The association had resolved that no teams from Kohima district or KDFA-registered players would be permitted to participate, warning of stern action against violators. It had also appealed to the Nagaland Football Association (NFA) to withhold the tournament until the matter was resolved and the dignity of its leadership restored.
