The two-day district-level philatelic exhibition, Naga-Pex 2025, was inaugurated at Don Bosco Higher Secondary School, Kohima on September 1. Organized by the Department of Posts, the event aims to promote philately among students and the wider public through a series of engaging activities.
The exhibition features non-competitive stamp displays, an interactive philately workshop, a “My Stamp” personalized stamp counter, and competitions in letter writing and stamp drawing for students from Classes 7 to 10.
Addressing the gathering, IPoS, Director of Postal Services, Dr. Alice K. Vizo, emphasized the importance of philately as a hobby that weaves together elements of history, geography, culture, science and art. She described it as a “cultural ambassador” that fosters national identity and artistic appreciation, while also offering therapeutic benefits. Dr. Vizo encouraged the formation of philately clubs in schools to nurture interest across all age groups.
Highlighting the educational value of the competitions, she noted that the letter-writing segment was designed to spark creativity and revive the enduring relevance of written communication. “Letter writing is not just a contest, it’s a timeless form of expression used in everyday life,” she remarked.
A special moment during the event was the release of a commemorative cover and cancellation dedicated to Don Bosco Higher Secondary School, Kohima. The initiative was proposed by the school’s 1999 batch as a tribute to the institution’s legacy. Dr. Vizo announced that the special cover will also be showcased at the National Philatelic Museum in New Delhi.
The programme included a ribbon-cutting ceremony for the exhibition and a welcome address by Superintendent of Posts (HQ), Noketho Rhetso. Earlier, the invocation was led by Fr. Innocent Panmei, Principal of Don Bosco Higher Secondary School, and a special musical number was presented by Anivo Nagi.
