Dimapur police have rescued one kidnap victim from Lotovi village under Niuland district and apprehended six accused including two juveniles.
Sources said the victim, a fruit vendor from New Market, was reportedly kidnapped on the night of September 2, 2025 at around 9 p.m. According to Dimapur police PRO, Rahul Jaiswal, a resident of Old Sewak Road, filed a FIR stating that his father Prabhu Prasad was reportedly abducted by a person identified as Amit Hussain Barbhuiya on September 2, 2025.
On receiving the written FIR, PRO said a case was registered with Dimapur west police station. During the course of investigation, West police station duty personnel along with SOT Dimapur arrested the accused Amit Hussain Barbhuiya from Apple Inn Eros Lane on September 3, 2025.
After extracting further information from the arrested accused, PRO said West PS personnel, SOT along with IR duty personnel proceeded to Lotovi village area and accordingly rescued the victim Prabhu Prasad and also apprehended six accused.
Police identified the accused persons as NNC/FGN “captain” Pukhaho (36), NNC/FGN secretary Don H. Swu (23), NNC/FGN president Akavi Chishi (38), Amit Hussain Barbhuiya (32) and two juveniles. PRO said two juveniles were handed over to juvenile police officer and accordingly forwarded to JJB for further necessary action.
Meanwhile, in a joint press statement, New Market, Ward-19 GB, Khekishe Aye, and Dimapur Municipal Council (DMC) Ward-19 councillor, Kili N. Sumi, strongly condemned the kidnapping incident, which they described as a threat to the peaceful coexistence and livelihood of the business community in the area.
They said that such criminal acts created fear among local vendors and traders, particularly non-local businessmen who contributed to the marketplace economy.
GB and councillor expressed gratitude to the commissioner of police (CP) Dimapur, and the officer-in-charge of West Police Station for their prompt intervention, which ensured the safe release of the victim and prevented escalation of the situation.
Further, they appealed to the law enforcement agency for stronger security measures to prevent recurrence of such incidents.
